College of Communication and Media Studies (COCOMS) came up in the early part of the 2024/2025 academic session following the unbundling of the Mass Communication programme by the NUC. Of the eight programmes to which the Mass Communication study was broken down, the College is presently undertaking four (4), thus having four key Departments in the College as of 2025/2026 academic session. These are: Department of Film and Multimedia; Department of Journalism and Media Studies; Department of Broadcasting; and Department of Mass Communication which is still subsisting.

The College of Communication and Media Studies is well equipped with requisite communication and media gadgets, and also experienced media personnel to impart the necessary and expected theoretical and practical knowledge to our students. The College is blessed with Faculties (Lecturers) that have had years of field experience across the programmes hence, the 'marriage' of town and gown is exemplified in the course of learning.

The College is currently headed by the Pioneer Acting Dean, Dr. Joshua Kayode Okunade, an Associate Professor of Strategic Communication, Public Relations and Broadcasting
