Dr. Obafemi A. Ibitoye

HOD

Dr. Obafemi A. Ibitoye is a Licensed Architect registered with the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and a Full Member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA). He is an accomplished academic and architectural practitioner with a strong research and professional focus on sustainable architecture and development.

With over 11 years of experience in academia, Dr. Ibitoye has taught extensively at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has coordinated key academic programmes including SIWES, Architectural Design Studio, and Advanced Architectural Design Studio, contributing significantly to curriculum delivery and studio-based learning. He currently serves as the Acting Head of the Department of Architecture, Caleb University, Nigeria, where he is actively engaged in teaching, research, academic administration, and leadership.

Dr. Ibitoye is a globally engaged researcher with several scholarly publications in reputable outlets. His research interests span the built environment, affordable housing, sustainable construction, and climate-responsive design. A notable aspect of his work is the exploration and promotion of Interlocking Stabilised Soil Blocks (ISSBs) as innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable construction technologies for addressing housing deficits in Southwest Nigeria.

He is a committed advocate of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with particular emphasis on Quality Education (SDG 4), No Poverty (SDG 1), and Climate Action (SDG 13), integrating these goals into his teaching, research, and professional practice.

Previously, Dr. Ibitoye served as the Acting Head of the Department of Architecture and Coordinator of Estate Management and Quantity Surveying at Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), Redemption City. In 2017, he won a ₦10,000,000 million grant for the execution of a pilot project involving the empirical demonstration of a sustainable housing prototype using ISSBs, which was successfully completed in December 2018.

In professional practice, Dr. Ibitoye worked with PRODECO, a subsidiary of INTELS Oil and Gas, where he served as Senior Architect and was responsible for the technical coordination of the Heliconia Park Hotel, Amadi-Ama, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He also audited the concept design of Eko Energy Estate, Eko Atlantic City, Lagos. He has successfully designed and supervised the construction of numerous residential, commercial, and industrial projects across several states in Southwest Nigeria
