Department of Mass Communication

The Comprehensive Foundation for Media Mastery

The Department of Mass Communication has keyed into the vision of Caleb University:
to be the leader in producing manpower in commerce, technology and the environment with due regard to relevance to societal needs.

The Department of Mass Communication in the College of Communication and Media Studies (COCOMS) of Caleb University, Lagos, came into existence as a result of the resolve of the management of the University to establish a journalism school that is second to none in Africa.

Prior to the take-off of the Department in the 2009/2020 session, the management of the University set up a committee of Mass Communication experts in 2008 to design the curriculum for the take-off of the department. The committee members include: Professor Ralph Akinfeye, Professor Idowu Sobowale, Professor Lai Oso, Professor Dayo Alao, Dr. Reuben Abati and Mr. Jimi Kayode.

The committee came up with the unique curriculum used by the department using the National University Commission (NUC) before the introduction of the CCMAS benchmark.

The Department admitted its first sets of 35 students in the 2009/2010 session. The pioneer academic members of staff of the Department were Professor Lai Oso, Dr. Adepoju Tejumaiye and Mr. Achike Okafo.
